Stratton Elementary School
Arlington, MA
General Contractor: Unicon, Inc./ Federal Construction
Completed: 2012
In September 2009, Turowski2 Architecture was commissioned to develop a Capital Improvement Plan for the Stratton Elementary School. Upon reviewing previous studies by others, making additional existing conditions assessments, and review with the Town’s Finance Committee, a Capital Improvement Plan was delivered in December 2009 which outlined $2.5 M. of improvements over 2-3 years, while avoiding important code triggers. In March 2010, Turowski2 Architecture was commissioned to implement the plan and bid Phase 2.
Capital Improvements in multiple phases allowed for the continued and uninterrupted use of the school by the Town and the community. Phase 1: Roofing, bathroom renovations for accessibility, minor envelope repair, and electrical upgrades. Phase 2: HVAC and window replacement, minor space reconfiguration.
The project was invited to participate in the Massachusetts School Building Authority’s (MSBA) Green School Program, which may add funding targeted specifically to roofing, windows, and boiler replacement.
