ABOUT US
Turowski² Architecture, Inc. was
founded in 2007 by husband and wife
team, Peter and Libby Turowski.
Prior to establishing their
practice, the couple worked in a
variety of firms and locations.
Peter was former partner in the firm
of Margo Jones Architects and Libby
was a partner in the design firm of
Cobalt Design Studio. Both firms
were located in Greenfield, MA where
the couple resided for eight years.
The couple returned to their Eastern
Massachusetts roots with the aim to
serve the beautiful and historic
communities of the region.
Turowski² Architecture, Inc. offers
complete architectural services from
planning to building design and
construction administration. We
bring the experience of working
in a range of environments,
including the urban context of
Boston and its suburbs, the wet
wilderness of the coast of Oregon,
the snowy environs of the
Connecticut River Valley and
Berkshires, and the wind and salt
swept shores of Massachusetts. This
broad experience has helped shape
our skills in designing for distinct
places, both in terms of identifying
aesthetic characteristics associated
with individual places, and
importantly, designing for its
sometimes adverse and varied environmental
conditions.
As a team, we bring over 40 years of
combined experience on a wide array
of projects, which range from
something as small as a single room
addition to a residence, to a public
school for 600 students. We
appreciate the varied challenges
that this range of projects has
brought to us, from working with a
single client or a family on plans
for their new home, to working with
a dedicated group of volunteer
building committee members as they
go through the long process of
planning, designing and building a
new public facility for their
community.
Peter and Libby both come to
architecture from an art background,
having received Bachelor of Fine Art
degrees from the Massachusetts
College of Art in Boston. We see the
building context, whether raw earth,
or urban setting as our canvas, and
building materials as our palette.
Our experience working in varied
places and with a wide range of
building types has exposed us to
almost all types of construction,
from historic mortise and tenon wood
frame construction on dry laid stone
foundation, to modern steel, glass
and concrete. We seek to find the
best quality and most appropriate
materials that budget will allow,
and execute their application in a
way that will bring delight.
We value our environment, both the
natural settings and the well constructed
precedents which we are so fortunate
to have in this part of the world.
We aim to build on the best of these
traditions, while being open to new
paradigms. We aim to create
architecture that establishes a
relationship in the world that is
respectful of neighbors and the
earth through sustainable practices. |
